Kara Andrade is a PhD candidate at American University’s School of Communication. She is a researcher, journalist and entrepreneur who focuses on Latin America, media, technology and society. She has more than ten years of experience working in the United States and Latin America as a bilingual journalist, entrepreneur and multimedia producer for a variety of leading media organizations including Al Jazeera America, Americas Quarterly, Associated Press, Christian Science Monitor, CNN, France 24, Global Post, The Huffington Post, National Public Radio, The New York Times and others. She consulted as a trainer and coordinator for the Astraea Foundation, the U.S. Institute of Peace, U.S. State Department, the World Bank and others. She has presented in fifteen countries at conferences including the Ashoka Future Forum, Campus Party Mexico, Commonwealth Club of California, Fulbright Annual Conferences, Guatemala Scholars Network, more than ten U.S. State Department organized TechCamps, four consecutive South by Southwest (SXSW) panels, various PeaceTech Exchanges organized by the United States Institute of Peace, the World Social Science Forum and many others.

Kara Andrade es una candidata para doctorado en la Escuela de Comunicación de la Universidad Americana en Washington, D.C. Sus intereses de investigación se encuentran principalmente en los medios digitales de comunicación, la tecnología, emprendimiento social, la narrativa digital y la estrategia para el cambio social en América Latina.  Ella tiene más de diez años de experiencia de trabajo en los Estados Unidos y América Latina como productora de multimedia, periodista bilingüe, y coordinadora para una variedad de organizaciones y medios, incluyendo Al Jazeera America, Americas Quarterly, Associated Press, Christian Science Monitor, Francia 24, Global Post, The New York Times y otros. Es asesora y TechTrainer para la Iniciativa eDiplomacy del Departamento de Estado de los EE.UU., así como, para el Instituto de Paz de los EE.UU.
